Bring photo ID
Anyone 18 and older has to show a government issued photo card at the door. This can be a driver’s license, a state ID card, or a passport. If you do not have it, you will not be allowed in. A reserved ticket does not override this rule.
Before you get to the Tour Centre, you will go through a metal detector. Please do not bring big bags. It’s a working studio with real security, not a ticket barrier. Plan accordingly.
Where it is and getting there
3400 Warner Blvd, Burbank, CA 91505 — about 25 minutes from downtown LA, roughly 4 miles from the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a couple of miles from Universal Studios Hollywood. Pairing it with a Walk of Fame stroll works nicely. Universal deserves its own day.
Parking for guests is by Gate 6. The fee is $15 for each vehicle. Pay when you arrive.
Inside the garage, RVs and trailers are not permitted. Oversized trucks are also not allowed.
Uber and Lyft will drop you at the main entrance on Warner Blvd. Metro Bus 222 stops nearby, along with a few Burbank routes.
For check-in, plan to arrive 20 minutes early. You will want another 30 minutes for parking, going through security, and grabbing coffee.
Studio Tour vs Classic Tour: pick deliberately
Warner Bros runs more than one version, and the difference matters more than most people realise.
The standard Studio Tour covers productions from roughly the 1960s onward — Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Gilmore Girls, and the DC film universe. If modern TV and superheroes are the draw, this is yours.
The TCM Classic Films Tour digs into the Golden Age, roughly 1923 through the 1970s. It’s a longer experience with an extended trolley run around the backlot and its own screening on studio history. If Casablanca, Bogart and the studio’s earliest days appeal more than Gotham, book this instead.
There’s also the Superman Experience, which runs Thursday to Monday, 11am to 6pm, either bundled with a tour or bought on its own. It’s the one part of the offering that genuinely does close Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so check the day if it’s on your list.
Both main tours start and finish the same way, through the Storytelling Showcase and Stage 48. Only the guided middle changes.
What you’ll actually see
Officially about three hours: roughly an hour guided, then two hours self-guided. Most people run closer to four once photos and the gift shop happens.
You start at the Storytelling Showcase, walking a floor map of the lot while a guide covers the four Warner brothers and how a small 1923 cinema chain became what it is.
Then the backlot by cart, which is the heart of it. Hennesy Street has stood in for Friends, three Batman films and The Greatest Showman. The Midwest Streets have played Gilmore Girls and Young Sheldon, and hosted the final episode of Seinfeld. Philadelphia and Chicago Streets are where Abbott Elementary and Shameless shoot.
You’ll pass the actual Friends fountain, tucked near the Gilmore Girls gazebo — fair warning, it’s much smaller in person.
Backlot availability changes daily depending on what’s filming, so no two tours are identical. That’s genuinely the appeal rather than a caveat.
The guided section builds to the DC Universe and the Wizarding World — costumes and props from Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Batman, including the Arkham Asylum gates, then original wands, a Sorting Hat moment, a wand choreography lesson, and Harry’s cupboard under the stairs.
Stage 48: Script to Screen is where it turns self-guided, and where most visitors say it lands. The real Central Perk set sits alongside The Big Bang Theory’s apartment 4A, the elevator and the Caltech cafeteria, plus hands-on displays on casting, green screen and how a script becomes a broadcast.
Central Perk Cafe next door sells Friends-themed food and drink, including the Joey Special. Order before you explore Stage 48 and it’s usually ready when you’re done.
The Studio Store closes at 7pm, well after the last tour, so there’s no rush on the shopping.
