What to do at the Singapore Oceanarium?

Explore 22 immersive zones

Explore 22 immersive zones

With an area that is said to be THREE times bigger than the S.E.A. Aquarium we all know and love, you can expect to learn, explore and discover a whole lot more at the new Singapore Oceanarium!

You’ll get to explore colourful coral gardens, deep-sea ecosystems, and prehistoric oceans in addition to the must-see Moon Jelly kreisel tanks and the incredible Open Ocean viewing panel.

We’re not going to go into detail on all 22 zones, but here are some highlights you should definitely check out:

Ocean Wonders

Ocean Wonders

Step inside Ocean Wonders and meet the mesmerizing (and strangely appetizing) sea jellies! These remarkable creatures have been floating through our oceans for over 500 million years, and you can see them drift and pulse right in front of you.

You may find yourself drifting toward the center of the space – in this glowing, alien place, the largest Kreisel habitat on the planet is home to thousands of Moon Jellies pulsing and gliding in mesmerizing, ever-changing rhythms.

Ocean Wonders

P/S. A Kreisel tank (pronounced cry-zuhl) is a type of fish tank made specifically for jellyfish. Instead of corners and flat flat plane walls like a typical tank, they are made with a shape that allows the water to flow through it in a gentle circular fashion, similar to a lazy river.

This also allows safe floatation and movement of a jellyfish as they are quite fragile and avoids any sharp edges or getting stuck.

What is quite cool? Many of these jellies were actually bred and raised by the expert aquarists at the Oceanarium, meaning the displays are always in flux. Yes, this means that no two visits to the Oceanarium are the same; there is always something new to look forward to when you visit!

Ancient Waters

Ancient Waters

Take a trip back in time to millions of years ago at Ancient Waters when our oceans were ruled by prehistoric giants like the armour-jawed Dunkleosteus and razor-toothed Xiphactinus! Look up, and you will see the full-size dramatic animatronics and gigantic replicas bringing these ancient creatures to life in an immersive and dramatic journey back in time.

But in addition to looking at these creatures full size, it is also your chance to touch some real life ancient fossils at the fossil displays too!

Open Ocean

Open Ocean

Dive into the Open Ocean and encounter even more underwater buddies: the elegant Manta Rays and Spotted Eagle Rays, as well as the majestic Zebra Sharks.

The main event and the Oceanarium’s largest viewing panel is an enormous window filled with a world of marine life. Need to reflect? Have a bite at Ocean Bites with sweet and savoury snacks and an incredible ocean view.

Spirit of Exploration

Spirit of Exploration

Prepare to unleash your explorer spirit at the Spirit of Exploration zone right in the center of the new Singapore Oceanarium, which is one of the most enthralling spaces.

At its heart is the Jewel of Muscat, a stunning full-scale replica of a 9th-century Omani dhow, which once traversed across the Indian Ocean trading routes. The dhow is a fantastic symbol of how far curiosity can take us.

Look up and you’ll see the Pier Adventure, a suspended web structure which is a great opportunity to walk above the exhibit and gain a new view that is perfect for thrill-seekers or the curious thinker.

Drop of Water

Singapore Oceanarium

Drop of Water is an engaging zone spotlights plankton, minute microscopic but powerful organisms that power whole ocean ecosystems.

Gaze up at the stunning domed ceiling resembling a drop of water hanging overhead, with projections that zoom in on millions of dancing plankton.
