Established for public viewing in 1988, the Darwin Aviation Museum showcases a remarkable array of warplanes, rescue helicopters, and aviation-related displays. It houses artifacts and authentic footage from the intense bombing of Darwin by Japanese aircraft during World War II and subsequent raids on Australian territory in 1942. Noteworthy among its collection is the imposing Boeing B-52G Bomber, one of only three B-52s exhibited outside the United States. Visitors can also admire the iconic British single-seater fighter aircraft, the Supermarine Spitfire VII, renowned from the 1940s and 1950s.
Beyond its captivating assortment of World War II fighter planes, the museum features various other intriguing exhibits like the Allison J33 and Rolls-Royce Derwent 8 engines. Guests can explore a diverse range of photographs showcasing ace pilots and pioneers in aviation, including Amy Johnston and Bert Hinkler.
