Travelers eligible for the rail pass must be foreign visitors entering Japan with a non-Japanese passport under the temporary visitor status. Other traveler categories are not eligible.
When purchasing or exchanging your rail pass, ensure you have your passport with the temporary visitor stamp, sticker, or Trusted Traveler Program card ready for verification.
At the airport, make sure to go through a manned gate or approach an immigration officer to get the necessary sticker or stamp, as the automated gates may not provide this service.
