When visiting Knossos Palace with timed entry, aim to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to ensure you're punctual. After exploring the Palace, take your time to wander through the archaeological site and museum at your own pace.
-
To make the most of your day, consider this schedule: Knossos at 8am, followed by the Heraklion Archaeological Museum at 1pm.
-
Your entry time for the Heraklion Museum is set 5 hours after your Knossos tour starts: 8am tour → 1pm entry, 9am tour → 2pm entry, 10am tour → 3pm entry, 11am tour → 4pm entry.
-
Comfortable shoes are a must for both locations. Dress in comfortable attire, wear a hat, and apply sunscreen, especially during the warm summer months at Knossos Palace.
-
If you have mobility challenges, stick to the main paths in Knossos. While about half of the site is accessible, some areas with ruins can be tricky. The museum is completely wheelchair accessible with ramps and elevators.
-
Make sure to carry a valid photo ID like a passport, government ID, or driver’s license.
-
Leave suitcases or trolleys behind as they are not permitted inside Knossos or the museum.
-
Don't forget to bring a charged smartphone and headphones as the audio guide is offered in English and German.
-
Ensure you have at least 350 MB of storage space on your phone to download the audio guide.
-
Keep in mind that the audio guide is not compatible with Windows Phones, iPhone 5/5C or older, iPod Touch 5th generation or older, iPad 4th generation or older, and iPad Mini 1st generation.
-
Download the ticket and audio guide beforehand while connected to Wi-Fi, as the mobile signal may be unreliable at the site.
