Discover the charm of Colònia Güell, an industrial town founded in the 19th century near Barcelona. This historic gem, located 20 kilometers southwest of the bustling city, was a visionary project by Eusebi Güell to enhance the lives of textile mill workers. The town showcases elegant modernist architecture, featuring theaters, schools, shops, gardens, and an Athenaeum.
Explore Ca l’Ordal, a structure in Colònia Güell designed to resemble traditional Spanish country homes. Created by architects Francesc Berenguer and Joan Rubió, this brick building provides a glimpse into the daily life of its era. Another architectural marvel, Ca L’Espinal, stands out as one of the finest edifices in Colònia Güell.
Antoni Gaudí was tasked with designing a church in Colònia Güell, but due to budget constraints, the project was left unfinished. However, the church, known as the Gaudí crypt, serves as a testament to Gaudí's innovative style. Unique features such as hyperbolic parabolic walls and intricate mosaic decorations called “trencadís” blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings. Local architects completed the crypt in 2000, restoring its roof which was intended to be the church's floor.
Embark on your journey at the designated meeting point outside the attraction. Choose between two booking options, one of which includes an audioguide tour. Both options offer skip-the-line access, allowing you to avoid queues. A form of identification is required as a deposit for the audioguide.
